St Helen's Church, Witton was the parish church for Northwich and the surrounding area from the 16th century onwards. From 1779 most baptisms and burials included more information than was usual in traditional registers. Baptisms included details not only of the birth date & baptism of the child, name occupation and residence of the parents, but also the names and residences of both sets of grandparents. From 1779-1812 these details occur within the register itself, and from 1813 when a traditional form for baptisms and burials was introduced which did not include room for this information, an auxiliary register was produced to provide supplementary family connections
